The guest list was easily managed at the 'Dining with Davids' event with 50 Davids invited to David's restaurant in Prahran, all gathered for the sake of the name. Kicking off with a comical speech from owner, David Zhou, addressing the group by their collective name and discussing the luck the name has brought him, the room full of Davids enjoyed five-courses of Shanghai fair that the foodie institution is known for.
Dining on pork dumplings, Shanghai-style seafood and chicken and a banana wonton dessert, singer and television personality, David Reyne as well as retired international chef and one-time cook for the royal family, David Mee, were more notable guests at the function. Reyne had his table of 12 entertained with tales of his life in front of the mic and on the television, while Mee's table listened attentively to his tales of cooking for the royals, and in particular Diana's graces and charms.
When the royal family visit Australia, they call on David Mee's services during their stay. The event also hosted social photographer David Cook, business partners David Krupp and David Lee of advertising agency FRANkVizeum, and David Lowenstein of Century 21 realestate in Prahran.
David’s in Prahran is one of Melbourne’s hidden dining treasures, having been awarded eight Chef’s Hats by The Age Good Food Guide.
The restaurant recently relaunched its menu to coincide with Chinese New Year, with new dishes to tempt the tastebuds including: Ancient Smoked Fish; Chicken Coriander Salad; Sweet Chilli Cod; Wuxi Pok Ribs; Bai Ling Mushroom and Bean Curd; and Tempting Honey Dates.
